TRAVELER'S GUIDE

what is a coronavirus?

Coronavirus, or SARS-Cov-2, causes a disease called COVID-19. The disease is most often manifested by fever, coughing, shortness of breath, muscle aches and fatigue. Small children, the elderly, people with reduced immunity or chronically ill are most at risk of developing the disease in severe form. Severe course can be observed in about 15-20% of infected people. Deaths occur in 2-3% of patients, but the data are probably overestimated - in many people with a mild course of the disease there was no laboratory confirmation of infection.

At the bottom of the page you will find the latest information on coronavirus in Vietnam, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia, Laos and Burma. This is only information provided by reliable sources and is intended to provide you with an overall picture of the situation in the countries we serve.

how to protect yourself from coronavirus?

SARS-Cov-2 is transmitted by droplet like normal flu. A vaccine that effectively protects against infection has not yet been developed. Below are infection prevention methods that are recommended by Ministry of Health in Poland.

TRAVELER'S GUIDE

coronavirus - Ministry of Health recommendations

wash your hands thoroughly

protection when coughing and sneezing

Always cover your mouth and nose with a bent elbow or tissue when sneezing / coughing. Immediately throw the tissue into a closed basket, wash your hands using water and soap. If you do not have access to them - disinfect your hands with an alcohol-based gel (min. 60%). Thanks to this, microorganisms will not spread to other objects or people.

safe distance

Coronavirus transmits like seasonal flu by droplet route. This means that people who sneeze or cough excrete small droplets (often even invisible!) Under pressure of saliva and mucus, which may contain virus. Therefore, it is recommended to keep at least 1 m distance from people who sneeze, cough or have a fever.

don't touch your face

Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with your hands - our hands touch different surfaces that may be infected. By touching places where the mucosa (or skin) is thin and delicate, you increase the risk of contracting a virus.

fever, cough or difficulty breathing? see a doctor!

The symptoms described above can accompany many ailments not related to coronavirus. However, if you have recently stayed in China or another country with a high incidence rate - DO NOT DELAY! See a doctor and limit contact with other people as much as possible to avoid spreading the disease - even if it's a common cold!

In case you haven't left Poland - don't underestimate the matter either! Check if there are cases of illness in your area and rate the risk of infection. Limit contact with other people and go directly to the doctor if your temperature exceeds 38 degrees, you feel pain in your muscles or joints, have a cough, runny nose, shortness of breath and generally feel unwell.

how to travel during coronavirus?

The basic principle of travel at the moment should be to actively follow the information of local authorities in the country you plan to visit. At the bottom of the page you will find several links that we think are helpful. Monitor whether additional epidemiological and administrative restrictions have been introduced in the place you want to visit, and how many cases have been detected. This is important information that will allow you to assess the real scale of the threat.

It is worth using local travel agencies and licensed Tour Operators. Thanks to this you will be in constant contact with people who have current information from the place where you plan to leave, and who will help you travel safely by actively adapting the sightseeing plan to the changing situation. Be open to changes in the sightseeing program due to local restrictions imposed by the authorities (closing of some places for tourists).

Remember that the health insurance you buy for the trip is valid from the day of departure to the day of return and also includes COVID-19 (confirm this with the agency before departure!).

Once you get there, try to avoid being in crowded places such as bazaars, shopping malls and clubs. In large clusters of people there is the greatest risk of meeting someone who may have been in contact with an infected person or is a virus carrier. The best hotels will be the smaller, boutique ones - consult the organizer of your trip and ask for a recommendation. If possible, opt out of public transport and opt for private bus transport - both when transferring to / from the airport and when traveling between cities.

Wash your hands and face often with soap and water, but don't forget to carry a small pack with antibacterial gel. Remember to decontaminate your hands after contact with surfaces and objects that other people may have touched, and each time before eating.

Remember that the situation related to SARS-Cov-2 is very dynamic, so it's worth to watch carefully the changes. Do not let yourself be carried away by panic - the authorities of the countries take care of their citizens and tourists who are on their territory. On the official government pages you will find current information - do not trust everything you read on the Internet! Plenty of websites produce false information and chain letters that are not confirmed by official communications. Follow the recommendations of local authorities, do not take any risky actions that may lead to the spread of the virus. When crossing borders, you may be asked to complete additional documents that are intended to certify your state of health.

does the mask protect against coronavirus?

The usual masks, which are the most common, consist of only a few layers of nonwoven fabric. It shouldn't hurt if you have a cold - it will help stop some bacteria. However, you must remember that such masks are disposable, so they need to be changed very often - every mask you remove has a lot of bacteria on it and should be thrown into a closed bin immediately. Don't forget to wash your hands and face!

Why is the mask important if you are staying in large clusters of people? According to tests, coronavirus particles can survive for up to 9 days, and the symptoms of infection are not immediately apparent. You are very close to other people in the crowd, so thanks to the mask you create an additional barrier. Try to reduce the risk of spreading the virus by wearing the mask in large groups of people, washing your hands and face frequently, a small antibacterial gel will not hurt either 🙂
