During a two-day trip to the Kanchanaburi region, we can fully experience the advantages of this place. It is a version of the trip extended by another day and additional attractions Floating market and the Kwai River.

Enjoy shopping in the Bangkok area - the authentic, Thailand's largest floating market Damnoen Saduak . The entire marketplace is located on a 32-kilometer channel connecting the rivers: Tacheen and Mae Klong . It is the remains of a nineteenth-century canal system in the Bangkok area, which lost its significance after the expansion of roads and was buried in many places.

There will be a cruise among sampans , i.e. traditional wooden boats - stalls, on which we will see and probably try tropical fruit , coconut ice cream or even hot snacks . With bellies full of delicacies and backpacks full of souvenirs, we will see the most famous bridge of Thailand located on the Kwai river, made famous by the movie titled "Bridge on the Kwai River ". The truth is that for the needs of the film another wooden bridge was built, in Sri Lanka , but its plot refers to the true story associated with the real one we will walk on.

During World War II, these areas were occupied by the Japanese, who decided to build an over 400-kilometer rail route from Burma to Bangkok . About 250,000 people were "employed" for this murderous job. prisoners, of which over 100,000 died and that's why this line was called the Death Railway .

In addition to the famous bridge, we will also see other objects related to this route, i.e. the wooden Tam Krasae Viaduct and caves in which the prisoners who built it lived in terrible conditions.

From here, we go to the marina and sail on the Kwai River to a hotel on a raft . Here, in the heart of the jungle and with its sounds we will have dinner. The whole stay at the hotel will be made more pleasant by the murmur of the flowing river and the glow of kerosene lamps, because this place is devoid of electricity . After dinner, we will watch the traditional dance of the Mons ethnic group , which they brought in II BC. Buddhism in modern-day Thailand. In the morning after breakfast we will see the village of this people and we will return by boat to the marina.

Refreshed, we return to Bangkok, but on the way we will allow you to visit the Elephant Camp , where we can feed the elephants. Staying there is optional and extra paid, but to be in Thailand and not have contact with elephants ...? In Thai culture, elephants have long been working animals - like our horses.

However, it is very important to consciously choose sanctuaries of wild animals, because the growing demand in tourism for contact with these giants causes that many people try to tame them quickly, and this is simply related to the violence we are against.

Do hotelu w Bangkoku wracamy jednak nadal busem, chyba, że ktoś przemyci słonia w kieszeni… 🙂
